We know how overwhelming it can be walking into a new room for the first time, not knowing what to expect or how your little one may feel, not knowing anyone or how the class will unfold. So let us walk you through it to take away any worries.
When you arrive at your Little Senses class, we will be there to welcome you in and explain everything you see in front of you from the setup, learning objectives and structure of the class, and we will happily answer any questions you may have This initial contact should help to put you at ease and take away any anxious feelings you may have.
Our classes are all 1 hour and are all split into smaller sections to make each chunk more manageable and less overwhelming. The different sections are the perfect amount of time for your little one to engage in and be able to take in new information without feeling overwhelmed.
Little Senses classes start with our Community Play time. This unstructured time offers a relaxed start to the class where you can place your baby down under our play gym, or on the soft air bed, or on the mat of toys to play whilst you interact with them, chat to other parents and relax. It is a much loved part of the session. We then play our ‘Tidy Up’ song and we gather away all the toys, ready to sit on the blue and yellow mats in a circle where your class leader will be sat at the front to guide you through every activity. Our welcome song “Hello to you” opens the class and is sung every week so we can manage the babies expectations, it’s familiar and it signifies the beginning of the session. Then the adventure begins…using a selection of carefully researched props, a varied range of musical genre’s and many time honoured nursery rhymes, we will take you and your baby on a sensory rich adventure, guiding you through each activity including how to position your baby, what they will be learning and how you as the adult can facilitate them in those few minutes.
This part lasts for around 20 – 25 minutes.
A short 2-3 minute break comes next, giving babies time to relax, have a brain break, a nappy change or just a moment of calm. Often, parents carry on their chat from the play time and it is so lovely to see friendships forming
To close the class, we come back together for a final few activities, ending with our “Goodbye to you” song.
SOME IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW:
From the moment you walk in until the moment you leave, every baby is the at the heart of what we do and we know how important it is to tend to their needs, so please know that at any point you may breastfeed or bottle feed your baby if they’re hungry, cuddle them if they need extra reassurance, walk around with them if that makes them feel safer, change their nappy (with a changing mat underneath) or rock them until they fall asleep.
There is never any pressure or expectation for your baby to join in with the class if they are not in the right behavioral state. We just hope that being in a safe space filled with kindness and support will fill you with oxytocin and happy feelings.
Week by week your baby will feel more and more settled in our class, and so will you.
